Two teams emerged victorious when the National Council on Science and Technology’s (NCST) debating semifinals ended this week. Consequently, next month, there will be a keen duel to determine the winner of this year’s Schools’ Science Lecture Series and Debating Competition.

Last Wednesday, February 9th Combermere School beat Ellerslie Secondary School in their debate which carried the moot that neither wind energy nor solar energy could solve the pressing energy problems being faced by Barbados and the rest of the region.

The following day "saw a true fight to the finish" between the Foundation School and Harrison College.?? Senior Technical Officer at the NCST, Arlene Weekes, said that students demonstrated great skills with both teams making spirited arguments; however, in the end, Harrison College prevailed.

The semifinalists will meet on Wednesday, March 23, at the Grand Salle, Central Bank at 10:00 a.m. for the final showdown. Participants from the winning school will be awarded a trip to the Caribbean Youth Science Forum in Trinidad in July.??
