Barbadians are being urged to come out to the action-packed boxing bouts tomorrow and Saturday, which will climax the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) Women Championships.

Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, has called on those persons who have not yet attended any of the matches at the Wildey Gymnasium to "make an earnest effort" to do so. "And for those who have already gone to some of the matches and supported the women, I encourage you to purchase your tickets for these bouts and be a part of history," Mr. Lashley said.??????

Twenty bouts will be featured in the semifinals tomorrow, Friday, September 17, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. Four-time 46 kg world champion, Mary Kom of India, and two-time 60 kg world champion and 2008 AIBA Women’s Boxer of the Year, Katie Taylor of Ireland, are some of the top names who will be competing in the semis.

On Saturday, there will be 10 bouts in the weight categories 45-48 kg, 51 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 64 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg, 81 kg and +81 kg. The finals will begin at 2:00 p.m. and medal presentations will be done after each match.

Tickets are currently being sold at all Super Centre supermarkets, except Warrens; Line and Length Barber Shops at Sheraton and Tudor Street, the Wildey Gymnasium, and Eddies Trading in Speightstown. Tickets for the semifinals are $20, while the finals will cost $30.
