Barbadians have another outlet to get an early start to their Christmas shopping when the Department of Commerce, under the Ministry of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, hosts a series of Bajan Christmas Marketplace activities at a number of locations.

The activities are being held in conjunction with the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association, the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Small Business Association, the Barbados Trust Fund Limited, Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme and the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation.

The first pop up market will be held on Friday, November 27, in the carpark of the Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael, starting at 1:00 p.m. Minister of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Kerrie Symmonds, is slated to deliver remarks at 2:00 p.m.

The carpark will be transformed into a mini marketplace, where vendors will get an opportunity to showcase a variety of goods, craft, clothing, tasty food and other items.

According to the Acting Director of Commerce, Bertram Johnson, the marketplace is designed to encourage members of the public to buy locally produced goods when choosing gifts this Christmas.

Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, will be the venue for the second marketplace to be held on Saturday, December 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Friday, December 18, National Heroes Square will come alive with carol singing by various choirs, as the marketplace takes on a more festive atmosphere. Apart from the choirs, there will be karaoke, Christmas treats and other locally produced items for sale.

The Ministry, in collaboration with its business support stakeholders, is urging all Barbadians to come out and support the vendors, adding that the small business sector has been identified as one of the sectors that would drive economic recovery within the Barbados economy.
