Awards are up for grabs for innovative practices in the field of education.

With the launch of the Third Commonwealth Education Good Practice Awards, at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London on April 5, educators in member states of the Commonwealth can recognise and celebrate initiatives in the school system.

The competition was developed to highlight good practices in education and to encourage, reward and generate enthusiasm within the sector.

Primary and secondary schools here have been invited by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development to submit programmes, projects, policies or strategies which have made a positive difference to children, their teachers, or the education system in respect of eight Action Areas.

The Action Areas, from which schools must choose at least one or more, are: Achieving Universal Primary Education; Eliminating Gender Disparities In Education; Improving Quality In Education; Using Distance Learning To Overcome Barriers; Supporting Education In Difficult Circumstances; Mitigating The impact of HIV on Education Systems; Using Education To Promote Sustainable Development and Promoting Civil Paths To Peace.

The awards ceremony will be held in Mauritius in August 2012.

The deadline for receipt of submissions is November 30, 2011.
