Children who participated in the Ministry of Culture???s Community Arts Development Programme will graduate tomorrow, Saturday, March 1, after five months of intensive training.

The ceremony, which will also include an arts showcase, will be held at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination (EBCCI), UWI, Cave Hill Campus, St. Michael at 6:00 p.m.

Students, ages eight to 16 years, will give performances in dance, theatre and music, while EBCCI student, Satya Collymore, will showcase a film.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, will give the feature address. Remarks will also be given by Chairperson of the Barbados National Commission for UNESCO, Alissandra Cummins, and Director of Cultural Policy and Research in the Ministry of Culture, Sheron Johnson.

The Community Arts Development Programme exposes communities to the performing arts with an aim to get the students into academic programmes at the secondary and tertiary levels.

In addition, the programme seeks to improve the quality of the performing arts on the islands as well as foster and promote a strong sense of national identity through the arts.

The programme is geared towards children of all races, ages, educational levels and socio-economic backgrounds.
