The Parish Independence Committees of the north will ‘give thanks and praises’ to those unsung heroes who have made significant contributions to their communities and parishes, starting this weekend.

They will be honoured during three community awards ceremonies for the parishes of St. Lucy, St. James and St. Andrew.

St. Lucy’s ceremony is entitled “Giving Praises” and will be held this Sunday, November 23,  at the Philippi Gospel Assembly, in Josey Hill, at 4:00 p.m. while St. James’ will take place on the following Sunday, November 30, at the Garden Church of God, in St. James at 5:00 p.m. Their celebration is entitled “Hallelujah Praises.”

The community awards ceremony for St. Andrew is entitled “The Garden of Praises” and will be held on Sunday, December 07, at the St. Andrew Parish Church at 5:00 p.m.

Field Officer for the Northern Zone, Ali Sandiford explained that the ceremonies would take the form of a thanksgiving and praise worship service.

He added that as Barbados prepares to celebrate its 42nd anniversary of Independence, the stalwarts who have served their community and by extension their country should be lauded for bringing the country to this stage of its development.

“It is a commemoration of those persons who have made a sterling contribution to their community and parishes. These are the unsung heroes who gave their heart and soul to Barbados without looking for special rewards

A total of 10 persons are honoured with the community awards on an annual basis. They are nominated throughout the parishes with the choices going to the Executive of the Parish Independence Committees. Community residents make up the selection panel for the honours.
