"An excellent workshop with high quality information for dancers."

That is how costume designer in the performing arts, Glenn "Genki" Brathwaite described a workshop held last Sunday for participants of the Community Dance Fest at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Organised by the Community Development Department, it was designed to assist the groups in their preparations for the zone Finals of Community Dance Fest, which starts Monday, December 14, at the Coleridge and Parry School for the northern parishes.

"The information the dancers received was top notch and the audience was very attentive," Mr. Brathwaite remarked.

The workshop brought together 14 groups and schools, including last year’s winners, Xtra Hype and the Hindsbury Primary School.

Participants were given technical advice from judges and specialists in various fields. Instruction and presentations were provided in areas as diverse as physical warm-ups, choreography and costume design.

Judging for the Southern Zone is also scheduled for Foundation School on Tuesday, December 15, while dancers from St. Michael North and St. Michael South will be judged at the auditorium of the St. Michael School on Wednesday, December 16, and Thursday, December 17, respectively.

All events start at 6:00 p.m. and attendance is free. The Community Dance Fest will climax with the finals at Garfield Sobers Gymnasium on January 21, 2010.
