Come Errol Barrow Day, Saturday, January 21, the best of local dance will be on stage at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, as 15 groups – 11 adults and four juniors – compete in Community Dancefest 2012.

The competition, which is being held under the theme: Unleashing the Spirit of the Community: Changing the Community through Dance, starts at 6:00 p.m.

Vying for the top spot in the adult category are: Bluetooth Breakers; Influential Dancers; New Motion – the only female group; Praise Academy of Dance – New Era; Base Control; Xtra Hype; Mystery Life Dancers; NGU Hotsteppers; Reactive HD; Higher Level Empire; and NWA Starz. NWA Starz is the wild card, a selection based on improvement.

In the junior category the competitors are: St. George Primary School; OLOS; Praise Academy of Dance – Promise; and the Israel Lovell Foundation Juniors.

In December’s Zone Finals, Praise Academy of Dance topped the adult category with 420 points, 38 more than second placed Influential Dancers.

Praise Academy of Dance – Promise also made their coaches proud by advancing in the children’s category with 388 points, 98 more than their nearest rival, the Israel Lovell Foundation Juniors.

Box offices for Community Dancefest 2012 are: Ticket Town in Warrens, St. Michael; C.S. Pharmacy, Bridgetown; Emerald City, Six Cross Roads, St. Phillip; Pharmaco, Speightstown, St. Peter; Digicel, Sheraton, Christ Church; Shell Service Station, Warrens; and Joe’s Pharmacy, Oistins, Christ Church.

Tickets will not be sold at the door and all persons are asked to be seated by 5:30 p.m.

Community Dancefest, which began in 2006, is coordinated by the Community Development Department (CDD) of the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development.
