The Community Development Department, in collaboration with the Whitehall Soccer Academy, will host a Community Extravaganza entitled: The Fight Is Not Over.

It is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, from 2:00 until 10:00 p.m. at the Whitehall Playing Field, Mile & A Quarter, St. Peter, with the opening ceremony commencing at 2.30 p.m.

The objective of the event is to promote safer sexual practices geared at reducing the incidence of HIV, as well as decrease stigma and discrimination through sensitising community members about the effects of HIV/AIDS.

There will be soccer matches, entertainment, HIV sensitisation and condom demonstrations, health checks, fun rides and games. Stationery and computer supplies will also be on sale, and patrons can take advantage of computer diagnostic checks and beauty services.

The department has also collaborated with the the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) to host a Fundamentals of Dance Workshop, and is inviting community groups and individuals with an interest in dance to register for the seven-week workshop.

It begins on Tuesday, August 9, and will take place every Tuesday until September 13, at the Parkinson Resource Centre, The Pine, St. Michael, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The components of the workshop include: Introduction to Dance, Movement Analysis, Introduction to Choreography, Introduction to Technical Theatre, Dance Etiquette and Self Development, Basic Dance Entrepreneurship, as well as Preparation for Dance Competition.
