Come Saturday, August 30, the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre, General Post Office, Bridgetown, will be transformed into a cultural arena when the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS) officially launches its 2008 programme.

The event is expected to be multi-cultural with presentations of dance, drama, and song, and it will seek to inform members of the public of upcoming Independence activities and encourage their participation.

Patrons will be introduced to this year’s Parish Independence Committees, the Parish Ambassadors and will witness the presentation of the Jackie Opel Spouge Award.

They will also be treated to a medley of spiritual songs by Barbados’ queen of gospel, Sister Marshall, and this year’s junior monarch in the eight to 12 age category, Myles Gittens.

Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steven Blackett, will deliver the feature remarks at the launch.
