Barbadians are being encouraged to be a part of the launch of this year’s Community Independence Celebrations this Saturday, August 27, at the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre, General Post Office, Cheapside, Bridgetown.

The theme of the celebrations is, Passion… Energy… Power: The Pride of Nationhood.

The launch begins with an Energy Fair at 10:00 a.m., when the latest ideas and innovations in energy saving methods and alternative energy will be on display. There will also be face painting and make up artistry for the young ones in attendance.

Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, will deliver an address and officially launch the celebrations at 5:30 p.m.

Members of the public will get an opportunity to meet their parish representatives and ambassadors, as well as honour the Jackie Opel Spouge Awardee for 2011, Richard Stoute.

During the evening, there will be performances from Reddy Panners, the Haynesville Youth Club, Popsicle, Bobo and a combined folk chorale, among others.
