Come Saturday, August 29, the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre, General Post Office, Bridgetown, will be transformed into a cultural arena when the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS) officially launches its 2009 programme.

The multi-cultural event, which will feature presentations in dance, drama, and song, will inform members of the public about upcoming Independence activities and encourage their participation.

During the extravaganza, patrons will be introduced to this year???s Parish Independence Committees and the Parish Ambassadors.?? They will also witness the presentation of the Jackie Opel Spouge Award.

As part of the entertainment package, the public will also be treated to a rendition of ???Hot Sun and Riddim??? sung by this year???s Party Monarch and Groovy Calypso Monarch, Terrencia (TC) Coward-Thompson.?? This will be followed by performances by Nahtalee; former calypso monarch, Adrian Clarke; and former road march monarch, Grynner.?? The ceremony will conclude with a medley of folk songs by the Pride of Wilson Hill Folk Group.

Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, will deliver the feature remarks at the launch.
