The Gall Hill playing field, St. John will be transformed into a sea of colour this Sunday, September 30, when the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Council Football Classic kicks off.

Thirty teams from each constituency will signal the start of the event with a parade of their team colours at 4:00 p.m. This will precede an opening ceremony, during which Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, will give the opening remarks and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will deliver the feature address.

The ceremony will also include an exciting entertainment package, with performances by 10-times Calypso Monarch Red Plastic Bag, local dancers and other entertainers.????

Following the official opening there will be the first match for the season with the reigning champions from the City battling St. Joseph at 6:00 p.m. Another heated match will begin at 8:00 p.m. as St. John comes up against St. Andrew.

The initiative, which is being organised by the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, aims to act as a catalyst in the revitalising of football at the community level.
