A Government Constituency Council is aiming to lend its expertise to other organisations in assisting those persons in the community stricken with disabilities.

To this end, the Christ Church South Constituency Council will be seeking to host a programme that highlights issues affecting persons with disabilities (PWDs).

As a precursor, the Council will hold a workshop, under the theme Educating the Community on Issues affecting Persons with Disabilities, next Wednesday, March 30, for members of the public interested in working with such persons.

The event will take place in the car park opposite Granny’s Restaurant, Oistins, Christ Church, and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Throughout the day, there will be panel discussions and a display of assistive devices for PWDs. There will also be an open forum to discuss a wide range of topics including: coping with a disability; parenting a disabled child; family and community support; and disabled persons and HIV/AIDS.

Additionally, there will be demonstrations of the correct way to guide a blind or visually impaired person; how to assist a wheelchair user; methods of communication for the blind and deaf; and disaster preparedness measures for PWDs and the elderly.
