Constituency Councils must endear themselves to the people.

This assertion was given by Deputy Chairman of the Christ Church South Constituency Council, Robert "Bobby" Morris, last Saturday, at a health and wellness fair, staged at Southern Plaza Complex, in Oistins.

Mr. Morris noted that the establishment of the Councils was a way of returning some form of authority to the people and members had to report to constituents every six months. He explained that prior to their formation, wide canvassing was done, with members comprising persons of all political persuasions.

The Deputy Chairman outlined programmes being organised to facilitate development of that constituency, including a clean up and debushing programme, as well as the ???Welfare to Work’ initiative.

He told the gathering: "We in Barbados know each other and we are convinced that we should work together for the betterment of our people. We expect you to hold us accountable. Whatever question you ask, we will answer."

Mr. Morris made a special plea for persons in the constituency, especially women, to be trained in such disciplines as massage therapy, which would be used as a vehicle to the world of work. He disclosed that the Council would soon be approaching hotels to explore job opportunities for these candidates.

Mr. Morris added that the Constituency Council was there to offer help to residents and he called on persons to become volunteers.
