One month after key agricultural stakeholders sat down for talks, aimed at propelling the sector and providing the framework for a proposed Agricultural Sustainability Bill, consultants are ready with the final reports.

A team from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) along with high-level agricultural officials are expected to discuss the reports coming out of last month’s national forum themed: ‘Food Sovereignty, Security and Nutrition: Agriculture our Future’. It will take the form of a focus group meeting to be held this Monday, June 16, at 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Conference, Graeme Hall, Christ Church.

Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer, Michael Hunte; Chief Agricultural Officer, Barton Clarke; and FAO’s Sub-Regional representative, Dr. Barbara Graham, will address the opening session for the meeting.

Following the opening, three technical sessions will be held which will address the several issues raised at the one-day forum.

FAO Consultant-Economist, Professor Frank Alleyne, will preside over the session pertaining to policy issues on: Land Use Planning and Control; Water Resources and Management; Agricultural Inventions and Good Agricultural Practices (GASPs’, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, NULL, NULL, 0); and Traceability. This will be followed by a presentation on the legal framework relating to these four broad areas by fellow FAO Consultant, George A. Sarpong.

FAO Consultant, Marsha A. Echols, will also speak to the Legal Framework relating to Traceability issues. This will be followed by wide-ranging discussion.

FAO Backstopping Officer, Stefana Burchi, will present a summary of the major issues and Deputy Permanent Secretary, Patson Alleyne, will deliver the closing remarks.
