The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/ World Health Organization (WHO), will on Monday, February 25, host a consultation on Healthy Ageing, at the Savannah Hotel, Hastings, Christ Church, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Caribbean Programme Coordinator with PAHO, Dr. Ernest Pate, will deliver welcome remarks, while Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joy St. John will examine the topic Barbados Ageing and its Relationship with the Development of Healthy Public Policy.

A contextual framework for a health sector response towards active ageing will also be provided by Senior Medical Officer with responsibility for non-communicable diseases and the Elderly, Dr. Kenneth George.

Participants at the consultation will also hear of the health systems and services available for elderly care in Barbados as well as future plans and challenges. This will be presented by Consultant Geriatrician with the Ministry, Dr. Ambrose Ramsey.

PAHO/WHO’s Advisor (Healthy Ageing), Dr. Enrique Vega will also share information on that organisation’s policies and guidelines for healthy ageing.
