Government will be mounting an island-wide campaign aimed at promoting greater awareness among Barbadian consumers. It will take the form of a series of town hall public meetings to be hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs over the coming months.

The first meeting, which will be held on Sunday, November 18, at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, is a joint effort with the District ‘C’ Consultative Committee. It gets under way at 5:00 p.m. and is expected to last until 7:30 p.m.

According to an official in the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, these meetings would be part of the Ministry’s programme to sensitise the wider society to current, consumer issues. He said the Ministry would be working in partnership with volunteer rganizations and community groups to host these town hall meetings over the next few months.

Specifically, he noted, “the upcoming meetings will seek to inform the wider community of consumer protection arrangements and mechanisms that are available to the public through the respective government agencies.  They will also seek to provide individuals with pertinent information about their rights as consumers.”

Officials of the Fair Trading Commission, the Office of Public Counsel and the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs will make presentations at Sunday’s meeting.
