The Ministry of Health has reminded members of the public who own dogs that it is their duty to ensure these animals are on a leash when in public.

In cases where the dog is not restrained, the consent of those in the vicinity must be obtained. In the event a dog defecates on a beach or in any other public place, it is the responsibility of the dog owner to remove the faeces and dispose of it in a satisfactory way.

Failure to comply with these laws carries a penalty of $250, imprisonment for a term of three months, or both.
