Pelican Village. (FP)

Staff of the Cooperatives Department of the Ministry of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce will be on hand at the Small Island Future Festival (SIFF) at Pelican Village, this weekend.

Amid the festivity on Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29, the department will seek to educate the public about its role from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Patrons will be able to obtain information on the history of cooperatives and how to form a cooperative, among other things.

Cooperatives that are expected to take part in the SIFF include the Emerging Brands Cooperative Society Limited, Addis Alem and the Women’s Entrepreneurs Cooperative Society Limited. They will showcase their associated products and services.

The festival ties in with government’s plans to revitalize Bridgetown and Pelican Craft Village, and it is believed that cooperatives can play a significant role in this type of development, hence the educational outreach.
