Do the right thing and bow out!

That is the call of Acting Commissioner of Police, Tyrone Griffith, to corrupt police officers within the Royal Barbados Police Force.

He made this comment during an awards ceremony to honour officers for their years of dedicated service at Solidarity House on Sunday.

Mr. Griffith told awardees: ???It is also your responsibility to do all in your power to eradicate those small pockets of persons whose conduct has been unethical and sometimes downright corrupt.

???I know those persons; you know those persons; and they know who they are. They should do the right thing and bow out. I will be doing all in my power to rid the organisation of them.

You too, need to do all in your power to assist the Force in being rid of them [because] they sully the reputation of an otherwise great organisation.???

Meanwhile, the acting Commissioner commended the officers present, for their years of dedicated service. ???In any area of work whether in the private or public sector to attend 20 or 30 years of continuous unblemished service is a great achievement.

???In the case of law enforcement, it is not only an excellent achievement, but a tremendous sacrifice. When others are asleep, our officers are out trying to ensure their safety and security. On special occasions like bank holidays, when persons are out enjoying themselves, police are expected to be on the job. I wish to commend all you recipients for the years of dedicated service,??? he said.

He also praised young officers who received commendation awards for outstanding performances during the course of the year. ???We all need to continue in this vein and encourage others to do likewise,??? he said.

Mr. Griffith commended officers for their outstanding work with recent gun-related crimes, particularly those from the Criminal Investigations Department. ???Our adopted philosophy of doing more with less, given the stringent financial times seems to be working. ???Despite all of this, we are very much aware that our citizens are requiring even more success. We, therefore, must not rest on our laurels,??? he said.
