The winners of the Barbados Council for the Disabled’s Inaugural Dorien Pile National Literacy Competition have been selected.

The competition, which began in March of this year, invited persons with disabilities, their family members, friends and caregivers to submit essays sharing their thoughts on the topic: Life As It Is: Living With A Disability In Independent Barbados.

In Category One, for persons under 18 years, Rhianna Smith placed first, followed by Nadhira Lorne and Kayla Daniel, in second and third place, respectively; while Blair Knight received a special prize.

Constance Maloney was the first place winner in Category Two, for persons 18 years and older, while George Francis and Nasiya Springer came second and third, respectively.
