The Barbados Council for the Disabled is inviting the public to submit essay entries for the inaugural Dorien Pile National Literacy Competition.

Persons with Disabilities, their family members, friends and caregivers are eligible to submit an essay and share their thoughts on the topic: Life As It Is: Living With A Disability In Independent Barbados.

Entries must be between 750 and 1,000 words and will be judged in two categories: Juniors, for persons under the age of 18; and Seniors, for persons 18 years and older.

Entries may be submitted in written, electronic (e-mail), audio or braille format to The Barbados Council for the Disabled, Harambee House, Garrison, St. Michael, or via email at finance@bcd.org.bb.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st place will receive $1,000; 2nd place, $750 and 3rd place, $500. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 6, 2016.??Persons may contact Gaylene Mohammed at 427-8136, or visit the Council???s website at www.barbadosdisabled.org.bb, for further information.
