The future of Barbados/Guatemala relations was discussed yesterday when Minister of Commerce and Trade, Senator Haynesley Benn met with Guatemala’s Ambassador to Barbados, Guisela Godinez Sazo.

Minister Benn stated that he hoped to establish greater trade linkages with the Central American country, while the Ambassador agreed that a commercial relationship could prove beneficial for both nations.

The possibilities of exports and imports, as well as training opportunities, were highlighted as areas of interest which should be investigated. The Commerce Minister said: "We look forward to developing our linkages…may it be in agriculture, manufacturing, services… [We are] always looking for new areas of opportunity."

Barbados and Guatemala established diplomatic ties on January 27, 1992.
