This report gives a breakdown of the categories of persons in isolation as at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28.
There were 811 persons in isolation. Of these, 629 patients (78 per cent) were unvaccinated, and 116 (14 per cent) fully vaccinated. Of those fully vaccinated patients, two persons were in secondary isolation, and the remaining 114 in tertiary isolation.
There were 46 partially vaccinated persons: two in primary isolation; three in secondary isolation, and 41 in tertiary isolation.
The number of unvaccinated patients in primary isolation was 27; 33 were in secondary isolation, and 569 in tertiary isolation. The overall figure for persons whose vaccination status was unknown is 20, or two per cent.
Primary and secondary isolation for COVID-19 patients in Barbados are units which accommodate those who are very ill and need close monitoring and treatment, with primary isolation being designated for the most severely ill.
Tertiary isolation houses patients who are mildly ill, or not showing any symptoms of the illness. It is important to note that the number of persons in isolation changes throughout the day as patients are admitted and discharged.
