This report gives a breakdown of the categories of persons in isolation as at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
There were 637 people in isolation. Of these, 513 patients (81 per cent) were unvaccinated and 105 (16 per cent) were fully vaccinated.
Five of those fully vaccinated patients (1 in primary and 4 in secondary) were in need of care, and the other 100 were in tertiary isolation. Nine persons, all in tertiary isolation, were partially vaccinated for COVID-19.
Primary and secondary isolation for COVID-19 patients in Barbados are units which accommodate those who are very ill and need close monitoring and treatment, with primary isolation being designated for the most severely ill.
Meanwhile, tertiary isolation houses patients who are only mildly ill, or not showing any illness. It is important to note that the number of persons in isolation changes throughout the day as persons are admitted and discharged.
