There were 23 new positive cases of COVID-19 recorded on Tuesday, March 2, while 54 people recovered and were released from isolation.

The positive cases were identified from among the 742 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. The number of active cases is 520.

One person died – an 82-year-old Barbadian man – who passed away after spending five days at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility. His death brings to 37, the number of people who have died from COVID-19.

The 23 new cases comprised eight men and 15 women. Eleven of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether they were in fact newly positive, or they had COVID-19 in the past and were no longer infectious. The other 12 persons are Barbadians.

Barbados has recorded 3,163 confirmed cases – 1,488 females and 1,675 males – and 2,606 persons have recovered.  The public health laboratory has so far completed 127,571 tests.

On Tuesday, 2,097 persons were vaccinated as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19.  To date, a total of 43,235 vaccinations have been administered – 18,316 men and 24,919 women.
