Barbados recorded 23 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, February 7, out of the 1,337 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

There were also 27 recoveries, bringing the number of active cases to 287.

The 23 new positives comprise nine women and 14 men. Three of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID-19 in the past and were no longer infectious.

Of the 20 other cases, 18 are Barbadians and two, non-nationals.

The total number of persons diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remains at 362. Of these, 358 have recovered and the remaining four inmates are included in the active cases.

To date, Barbados has recorded 1,732 confirmed cases – 718 females, 1,014 males – and 1,427 persons have recovered.  There have been 18 deaths from the viral illness.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 108,286 tests.
