This country recorded 30 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, February 18, from the 702 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

There is no longer a backlog of samples and all positives were received and tested on Thursday.

A total of 51 people recovered from the viral illness. The number of active cases is now 789.

One person died, a 93-year-old woman with comorbidities, who passed away at the Enmore Isolation Facility.  Her death brings to 30 the number of people who have succumbed to the virus.

The 30 new cases comprised 17 women and 13 men. Three of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious.

Twenty-six of the new cases were Barbadians and one was a non-national.

The total number of persons diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds is 363.  Of these, 361 have recovered and the remaining two inmates are included in the active cases.

Barbados has recorded 2,677 confirmed cases – 1,228 females and 1,449 males – and 1,858 persons have recovered.

The public health laboratory has completed 119,338 tests, since February 2020. There were 2,340 persons vaccinated on Thursday, as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19.  

To date, a total of 11,494 vaccinations have been administered – 5,210 men and 6,284 women.
