Ministry of Health and Wellness’ COVID-19 Situation Report for Friday, February 19, 2021

Thirty-eight persons tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, February 19.  These new cases were identified from among 717 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

Fifty-six people recovered from the virus, bringing the number of active cases to 770. There was one death; a 60-year-old Barbadian man with comorbidities, who passed away while at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility.  The number of deaths from COVID-19 is now 31.

The 38 new cases comprised 15 women and 23 men.  Six of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious.

Thirty of the new cases were Barbadians and two were non-nationals.

As of Friday, there were no active cases at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds.

Barbados has recorded 2,715 confirmed cases – 1,243 females and 1,472 males – and 1,914 persons have recovered.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 120,055 tests. There were 2,917 persons vaccinated on Friday, as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19. To date, a total of 14,411 vaccinations have been administered – 6,390 men and 8,021 women.
