Barbados recorded 508 new COVID-19 cases, 213 males and 295 females, on Friday, August 5, from the 1,256 tests carried out by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The positive cases comprised 63 persons under the age of 18, and 445 who were 18 years and older. There were 76 people in isolation facilities, while 3,196 were in home isolation. A 77-year-old man died on Friday, August 5, taking the COVID-19 related deaths in Barbados to 499. 

The public health laboratory has conducted 734,354 tests since February 2020, and recorded 94,601 COVID-19 cases (42,952 males and 51,649 females).

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 162,990 (71.4 per cent of the eligible population). 

The total number of fully vaccinated persons is 154,076 (56.9 per cent of the total population or 67.5 per cent of the eligible population). The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
