A total of 512 people – 225 males and 287 females – tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, January 29, from the 2,173 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The cases comprised 76 persons under the age of 18, and 436 who were 18 years and older. There were 159 people in isolation facilities, while 9,675 were in home isolation.

A 96-year-old unvaccinated man died on Saturday, at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility.  As at January 29, the virus had claimed 279 lives.

The public health laboratory has carried out 535,223 tests since February 2020, and recorded 43,993 COVID-19 cases (20,418 males and 23,575 females).

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 158,623 (69.5 per cent of the eligible population). 

The total number of persons who are fully vaccinated is 147,095 – 64,124 males and 82,971 females – (54.3 per cent of the total population or 64.4 per cent of the eligible population).  The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
