As at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 4, there were 170 patients in isolation facilities (39 in primary, 93 in secondary, and 38 in tertiary isolation).
Of these, 71 patients (42 per cent) were unvaccinated, and 95 (56 per cent) were fully vaccinated. The unvaccinated comprised 26 persons in primary, 32 in secondary, and 13 in tertiary isolation.
Of those fully vaccinated, 11 patients were in primary isolation, 59 in secondary, and 25 were in tertiary isolation. Additionally, there were four partially vaccinated persons – two each in primary and secondary isolation.
Primary and secondary isolation for COVID-19 patients in Barbados are units which accommodate those who are very ill and need close monitoring and treatment, with primary isolation housing the most severely ill. Tertiary isolation houses patients who are only mildly ill or not showing illness.
It is important to note that the number of persons in isolation is fluid and changes throughout the day as persons are admitted and discharged.
