As at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 31, there were 182 patients in isolation facilities (33 in primary, 98 in secondary and 51 in tertiary isolation).
Of these, 75 patients (41 per cent) were unvaccinated, and 89 (49 per cent) were fully vaccinated. The unvaccinated comprised 23 persons in primary, 35 in secondary, and 17 in tertiary isolation. Of those fully vaccinated, eight patients were in primary isolation, 50 in secondary, and 31 were in tertiary isolation.
Additionally, there were seven partially vaccinated persons – two in primary isolation, two in secondary isolation, and three in tertiary isolation. There were 11 patients in secondary isolation whose vaccination status was unknown.
Primary and secondary isolation for COVID-19 patients in Barbados are units which accommodate those who are very ill and need close monitoring and treatment, with primary isolation housing the most severely ill. Tertiary isolation houses patients who are only mildly ill or not showing illness.
It is important to note that the number of persons in isolation is fluid and changes throughout the day as persons are admitted and discharged.
