As at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2022, there were 65 patients in isolation facilities (14 in primary, 47 in secondary, and four in tertiary isolation).
Of these, 48 patients (74 per cent) were unvaccinated, and 16 (25 per cent) were fully vaccinated. The unvaccinated comprised 11 persons in primary, 33 in secondary, and four in tertiary isolation.
Of those fully vaccinated, three patients were in primary isolation, 13 in secondary, and none in tertiary. One person, in secondary isolation, was partially vaccinated for COVID-19.
Primary and secondary isolation for COVID-19 patients in Barbados are units which accommodate those who are very ill and need close monitoring and treatment, with primary isolation housing the most severely ill. Tertiary isolation houses patients who are only mildly ill or not showing illness.
It is important to note that the number of persons in isolation is fluid and changes throughout the day as persons are admitted and discharged.
