A call has gone out for credit union institutions to further contribute to society.

It came last Saturday, from the then Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Maxine McClean, while speaking at the opening of the new home for the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus Credit Union.

Senator McClean said: “I would love to see the credit union movement contribute to the development of the Small Entrepreneur Enterprise Development Project (S.E.E.D.), by providing a grant to one or more of the entrepreneurs who will be going through this project”.

She added that the credit unions’ assistance in such a venture would demonstrate a commitment to the sharing of surpluses and benefits of their hard work, and, in so doing, promote the philosophy of cooperation.

The Small Entrepreneur Enterprise Development Project (S.E.E.D.) was previously planned under the old Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development, as motivation for empowering constituents to take care of and have pride in their environments, through work such as landscaping, and was scheduled to come to fruition over the next couple of weeks .

SEED was conceptualised with the intention of building a spirit of understanding and interest in entrepreneurship.
