The apparent insurmountable challenges confronting Barbadian youth daily and the pressing need to rein in the elusive solutions will be tackled at a national crime prevention conference in Barbados next month.

This inaugural meeting is slated for the Sherbourne Conference Centre on September 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is a major event of this second annual Crime Awareness Month focusing on “Youth Empowerment in the Fight against Crime”.

“This conference will seek to highlight a number of issues our youth encounter while identifying feasible solutions for addressing them,” says Mrs. Cheryl Willoughby, Director of the National Task Force on Crime Prevention (NTFCP), in the Office of the Attorney General, organiser of the activities.

Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Freundel Stuart and Minister of Family, Youth, Sport and Environment, Esther Byer- Suckoo head the list of specially-invited speakers on the first day, which will feature presentations by corporate Barbados, the clergy and non-governmental organisations.

Day two will focus on contributions by representatives of youth bodies including the Barbados Youth Development Council, the Emerging Global Youth Leaders and Peace Ambassadors.

Prior to this conference, an appreciation ceremony for participants in the NTFCP’s ongoing Dispute Resolution and Conflict Mediation programme is planned for Accra Beach Hotel and Resort on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Mr. Stuart and Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones, will address the session.
