The history of this island’s major festival is currently being shared by the Barbados Museum and Historical Society in an exhibition entitled Evolution of a Festival: Crop Over through the Centuries.

Members of the public may view the exhibits from Monday to Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The exhibition is being sponsored by the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited and Sagicor General Insurance Incorporated and will end on Monday, August 15.

This exhibition traces the changes that have occurred during the festival’s early days, when it started on the plantation, until now. Visitors should be able to visualise the 19th century celebrations that focused on the decorated cart, and featured singing, dancing and feasting. They will also be able to view headpieces and photographs which are on loan from Marcia Chandler, discographies from Elizabeth Watson, as well as album and CD covers.

For further information the public should contact the Barbados Museum at telephone number 427-0201 or email info@barbmuse.org.bb. Admission to the Museum is free to locals and CARICOM nationals.
