Barbadian residents are being encouraged to take advantage of the Crop Over Staycation special offer for the upcoming Crop Over Weekend.

This special offer was disclosed by Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins, who was speaking at a press conference this morning at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., One Barbados Place, Warrens, St. Michael.

The initiative, which is a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism, the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Authority and the Intimate Group of hotels, will afford locals the opportunity to pay for a minimum of two nights stay at participating hotels and receive one night free. Those interested in the specials may book through the website https://bookbarbados.com/, or directly with the hotel of their choice. Persons may also visit https://bookbarbados.com/staycation for further details.

Minister Cummins reminded persons that for many years there were staycations, subject to availability, in most hotels throughout the summer period.  She said this Crop Over special was simply an addition to the staycation rates currently on offer.

“For all different types of reasons, people go away for the Crop Over weekend, so we are simply having a special offer, in collaboration with all of the partners, on top of the staycation packages that are already there in the market.”

Senator Cummins noted that the tourism industry was currently being impacted by global travel challenges, and there have been complaints worldwide, regarding the lack of airplanes and staff, backlogs at airports, and other travel issues, which have all impacted Barbados’ summer season.

“There are any number of challenges and those things are also affecting our local stakeholders like the Crop Over bands. So, we, as a Government, have to make some decisions on how we can work with our industry stakeholders to make sure that everybody is able to benefit from the different types of interventions on the market that can be supported,” she said.

The Crop Over special will run from Friday, July 29, until Wednesday, August 3.
