The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) are in close contact with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to monitor and research the Zika cases in Caribbean destinations.

The CTO issued a statement to this effect yesterday, which reiterated that public health authorities in the Caribbean were working diligently to mitigate the effects of the Zika virus, which is spread by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

According to the CTO, that organization, as well as the CHTA, were in communication with respective stakeholders and were observing national, regional and international health protocols in dealing with mosquito-borne viral diseases.

The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. The illness is usually mild, with symptoms lasting from several days to a week. Zika guidelines for travellers can be accessed at here, while guidelines for hotels and guest houses can be accessed at here.??
