The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) has been described as "an excellent role model for all cooperative organisations".

In lauding CTUSAB for "the immense contribution it has made thus far to labour administration in Barbados", Minister of Labour and Social Security, Dr. Esther Byer She was speaking at the opening of the 9th Biennial Delegates’ Conference, which was held at the Harcourt Lewis Auditorium, Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union, recently.

"I wish to assure you that Government is fully cognisant of the need for comprehensive and well-structured mechanisms to exist, [especially] if we are to continually develop our labour force and our labour infrastructure in general.?? We are also aware that we cannot achieve our mandate alone," the Labour Minister said.

She further stressed: "The role of CTUSAB, therefore, remains very critical in the administration of labour matters.?? CTUSAB members have one common goal namely, to secure the best conditions of work for its members. I am pleased to say that CTUSAB has achieved this goal, and indeed is an excellent role model for all cooperative organisations."

Acknowledging that CTUSAB is a member of the social partnership, she lauded the organisation for its continued support and advice on labour matters.
??
Moreover, she emphasised the need for the social partnership to work together for the betterment of Barbados.?? "We are brothers, whether in Government, Labour or Capital," she stressed.

"I am sure that you can all relate to this phrase which has now become a mantra:?? "One hand can’t clap"….?? We need to work together to achieve our vision for Barbados. We must indeed be our brothers’ keepers.?? It is only through the spirit of co-operation -tripartite co-operation – that we can assist each other as we strive to achieve a single goal: the best for our members and the country of Barbados as a whole," Minister Byer Suckoo stated.

Noting that she welcomed any opportunity to interact with the social partners, the Labour Minister stressed: "The merging of minds within the social partnership has allowed us to maintain our reputation as a country with a stable political, social and economic environment. ??

"In more recent times the strong tripartite relationship between labour, capital and state has allowed Barbados to weather the severe effects of the global recession," she said.??
