Cuba’s Ambassador to Barbados, Lisette Perez Perez, is expected to receive correspondence from the Division of Culture and Sports shortly outlining how both countries could further cooperation.

This was agreed upon when Ms. Perez Perez paid a courtesy call on Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, recently at his office at the Warrens Office Complex.

The envoy acknowledged that culture and sports were very important areas of collaboration between the two countries, and noted that Cuba could share its tremendous experience in these areas with Barbados. "Culture and sports can make the difference and I am excited that we can share concrete projects," she beamed.

Minister Lashley said he would also like to see youth exchanges between both countries, adding that his Ministry could share its models with the Republic of Cuba. "Cuba is a leader in sports and we are looking at fast-tracking some of our key areas, including table tennis, swimming and squash and, of course, we would welcome any assistance," he declared.

The view was advanced that sports and culture could play a critical role in develop any society and curbing deviance among its people.??saustin@barbados.gov.bb
