A greater understanding of the needs of Barbadian students in Cuba and the impending trip of Minister of Commerce, Senator Haynesley Benn to that country, were two of the topics of interest when Cuban Ambassador Lissette P??rez P??rez paid a courtesy call on Minister Benn, this afternoon.

Senator Benn said he was looking forward to meeting with the Barbadian Diaspora who are living and studying in Cuba.?? A reception will be held on Barbados’ Independence Day, November 30 in that country.

During their discussion, the Ambassador and Minister Benn touched on a range of topics, including exploring commercial relations between the two countries and learning more about Cuba’s industry, manufacturing, agriculture and other productive sectors.?? An important topic which was also highlighted was the issue of accreditation of students returning to Barbados after completing studies in Cuba. The Minister of Commerce opined that dialogue was necessary between the two countries to ensure that those studying abroad can be assured of the viability of their qualifications when they returned home.

"My interest is to assure the parents of students that their needs are met and their expectations fulfilled," Senator Benn offered.?? Ambassador P??rez P??rez agreed and suggested that there needs to be a sharing of knowledge in this regard, adding that she, too, wished to find a resolution for the matter and that she appreciated the Minister’s interest and support.??

Minister Benn leaves for Cuba on Saturday.
