Barbados’ Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Maxine McClean, today hailed the contribution that Cuba continues to make to Barbados and the rest of the Caribbean.

Her commendations were made during a courtesy call from Cuba’s Ambassador to Barbados, Pedro Andrés Garcia Roque.

Referring specifically to the cooperation between the two countries in health care, Minister McClean noted that the role played by Cuba, not only in Barbados, but in the region, was greatly appreciated.

Ambassador Garcia, in acknowledging the commendation, said that it was his country’s desire to continue a strong relationship with the region and referred to his Government’s wish to establish a clinic for diabetes in Barbados.

Barbados and Cuba have been cooperating in areas such as health, sports, education, and culture.

The two countries established diplomatic relations on December 8, 1972.
