Barbados’ cultural industries sector can help to empower communities, preserve unique values and safeguard the authenticity of cultural expressions.
Chairman of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), Monique Taitt, expressed this view today while addressing the two-day Cultural Industries Symposium at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Ms. Taitt promised that the NCF would continue to design programmes that focussed on providing its constituents with the necessary industry tools which were in harmony with best practices established in the cultural industries sector.
She explained that the NCF had redesigned its symposium to further support and professionalise the sector.??"As we strive to unlock the sector’s economic potential and
encourage a spirit of self-sufficiency, it is our goal to maximise tangible, social and economic returns for cultural practitioners and Barbados generally, which should result in more stimulated dialogue and fostered cooperation between the financial, tourism and cultural sectors.
"We will seek to achieve our objectives through the promotion of entrepreneurship and we expect that further strengthening will occur by placing emphasis on the importance of intellectual property, reinforcing the existing bonds between the public and private sectors, and by creating durable and dynamic partnerships," she declared.
Ms. Taitt urged the cultural practitioners and entrepreneurs to not only share their challenges with the NCF, but also offer up possible solutions to them.
