Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, has praised the various organisers responsible for the success of the Ministry???s Parish Ambassadors??? programme.

Speaking at the official launch of Community Independence Celebrations 2015, over the weekend at the Speightstown Esplanade, St. Peter, Mr. Lashley noted: ???The sustainability of this programme would not have been possible without successive Parish Independence Committees which, with the support of other volunteers, have stuck with the programme. Its success is due to their dedication and commitment over the years.???

The Minister thanked the many persons who volunteered to facilitate the training of the Parish Ambassadors, adding that they went above and beyond to accomplish their roles. He also made special mention of Coordinator Curtis Gibbons, who was unable to attend due to illness. Mr. Lashley assured the current Parish Committees and all other organisations involved of Government???s continued commitment to the programme.

???Through the Community Independence Celebration Secretariat, technical support and guidance will continue to be provided to enable you to execute your various parish activities successfully,??? he affirmed. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Community Independence Celebrations, which were first introduced in 1995. This year???s theme is: Come, Celebrate Barbados!
