Thousands of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Excise Tax registrants should soon have the luxury of transacting business with the Customs and Excise Department from the comfort of their homes or offices via the internet.

This will be made possible with the introduction of the VAT and Excise Tax Administration System (VETAS), which will be launched during an official ceremony on Friday, July 8, at the Accra Beach Hotel, Rockley, Christ Church.?? Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, is slated to give the feature address at the event which will commence at 10:00 a.m.

The new and improved system would, among other things, allow tax payers to register for VAT and Excise Tax; prepare and file tax returns; update their information and authorise tax agents to act on their behalf. It would also facilitate requests for tax clearance certificates; file objections and make certain requests and enquiries.
