The Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) programme currently ongoing at some secondary schools across the island will be officially launched tomorrow, Friday October 28, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

The importance of the programme to the education sector is expected to be outlined by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, when he addresses the function which starts at 10:00 a.m.

At present, seven schools, including five pilot schools, are involved in the implementation of this qualifications programme that seeks to broaden the certification framework and provide for greater equity between the technical and vocational and academic disciplines. The pilot schools are St. Leonards’ Boys, St. George Secondary, Grantley Adams Memorial, Princess Margaret and St. Lucy Secondary School.

The Alma Parris and Alleyne Schools are also involved in the CVQ programme but their work is facilitated through the St. Lucy Secondary School.??

Among the subjects presently being offered under the CVQ programme are Carpentry, Masonry and Electrical Installation all at Level 1.
