Christmas was made more special this morning for Sharon Howell, the grand prize winner of the Coastal Zone Management Unit’s (CZMU) Independence Quiz Challenge.
Ms. Howell, one of nearly 200 persons who participated in the competition, was presented with a voucher for a staycation weekend for two at the Coconut Court Hotel.??
Director of the CZMU, Dr. Leo Brewster, who presented the prize along with marketing representative for the hotel, Shelly Moore, explained that the quiz was created to encourage a greater public awareness.
??"The idea was to make people more aware of, not only the environment, but we had a strong emphasis on tourism and biodiversity as part of this programme.?? [We] focused on the International Year of Biodiversity, which [coincided with] the Ministry of Tourism’s biodiversity awareness campaign.?? So we thought it would be a good idea to run the quiz to focus on those two themes," he said.
Dr. Brewster also extended a special thanks to the other sponsors of the competition, namely Divi Southwinds Resort, Dover Beach Hotel, Sun Isle Technology and Baird Associates.
