The Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) is seeking stakeholder feedback on proposed designs for coastal improvements at four sites in the north and south of Barbados.

The sites identified for coastal improvement under the Inter-American Development Bank-funded project are located at Clinketts, St. Lucy; Sand Street, and St. Peter’s Bay to Mullins in St. Peter and Oistins, Christ Church.

The primary goals of the projects being undertaken by consultant, Baird and Associates, are to provide shoreline protection, access along the shoreline and improved beaches.

As a result, the consultant is seeking feedback on the initial concepts developed, site conditions and challenges likely to be encountered.

These concepts are available on the CZMU website at www.coastal.gov.bb in the “news” section under ‘Design Options for New Waterfront Improvement Projects’.  These proposed designs contain elements similar to those at previously constructed CZMU projects, as may be seen at the Richard Haynes Boardwalk, Hastings, Christ Church and in the vicinity of Holetown, St. James.

Meanwhile, surveys for work done at Clinketts, St. Lucy may be completed online from https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Clinketts; Sand Street at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SandStreet; St. Peter’s Bay to Mullins at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StPeterToMullins; and Oistins at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/OistinsSite.

Please complete only one survey response per site by Monday, September 16, 2019.

The aim is to have the final designs for the four sites completed by early 2020, after which Government will make a decision on which projects should continue through constructions and the proposed schedule for the work to be executed.
